Using Bridesmaid’s dresses for Angel Gowns

It’s so much fun to be creative with the baby angel gowns.  I am going to incorporate bridesmaids dresses for an extra pop of color on both the girl and boy gowns.  I like the idea of making the vest and bow tie a color!  Michelle Ammons gave me this dress to use.  I’m so excited!  It will a layer of gathered texture to the front of the gown.  
If anyone would like to donate their dress, please shoot me a message so we can arrange a delivery or pick up.
I’m also thinking of including men’s ties.  If anyone has any to donate, they would make adorable tiny ties or bow ties for the boy’s gowns!  Black satin dresses also would be cool so It can give the gown a “tuxedo”  look.  It’s all about recycling and going to a good cause!

This is not my picture but I wanted to show you an example of how adding color makes such a difference. I might go buy some black satin just to make a tuxedo looking one to see if I even like it. Ok, time to get back to my sewing machine!

 I received an email out of the blue from Buckhead THRIFTique which is a division of Buckhead Christian Ministry  letting me know they were closing the thrift store permanently and would I be interested in a donation of wedding dresses for my Angel Gown mission.  Of course I said yes even though I have quite a few to work on.   Through my contact Ann Hewitt, we made arrangements for me to go pick them up.  Thinking I was going to get 3 or 4 dresses, I made my trek from Dallas GA to Buckhead.  (About an hour drive). Ann met me at the door and graciously invited me in.  She showed me the dresses the Ministry wanted to donate.  There were bags and bags of beautiful wedding dresses!  26 of them!  Plus there were 11 pastel prom/bridesmaids dresses.  Wow!   I drove my trusty rusty Ford Escape around to the loading dock and loaded all the dresses into my vehicle with the seats down.  It was full to the top plus the front seat. ...

 A year ago I started making Angel Gowns because someone was going to throw her wedding dress away after a ugly divorce.  I convinced her I could make something using all the fabric.  From there, I started the North Georgia Angel Gowns Facebook page with encouragement from my daughters.  Never did I think I would get so many ladies willing to give up their beautiful wedding dresses for this cause!  I’ve gotten some from California, New York, Indiana, Delaware, Florida, Idaho, Wyoming, and many other states!  Of course quite a few from Georgia ❤️.  As of this week, I’ve used 20 gowns and have that many to still use!  Lots of the gowns donated to hospitals not only here in Georgia but all over the country!

Opening a Wedding Dress Box That has Been Preserved

 Today, I sewed a few more baby angel gowns, then felt the need to move around instead of sitting in my comfy chair, so I opened boxes that contained wedding dresses that were professionally preserved.  Here are a few that I opened today.  I have a few more to open so they will be featured another time.  To read a little about the preservation process here is a link .   So, I had to use scissors to pop the seal. Then opened the box.  The dress was carefully placed and some included tissue paper or had a cardboard form holding the top part of the dress. One at a time, I placed the dress on the dress form that was given to me by my children because I make myself clothes on occasion .  I take a picture of the front of the dress, then turn it around and take a picture of the back.  I need to break out my 35mm camera so the pictures look more professional!  I do have enough dresses that I can concentrate on using 2 dresses a month to make the baby...
