Volunteers Needed

The North Georgia Angel Project has grown!  Which is so exciting to see so many ladies want to donate their wedding dresses to become angel gowns! ♥️ With that said, we are hoping some volunteers will come forward to assist when they have free time.  There are no time constraints because we want this mission to be rewarding and a way to pay it forward!   Are you handy with a pair of scissors!  We can use your help taking dresses apart. We could use some one to cut out the patterns. You don’t need sewing skills! Definitely could use a few more seamstresses.  Help with posting on our blog or maybe developing a website! We would like to make this mission a nonprofit organization. Can you help? Then we do need small financial donations. All costs come out of our pockets.  We buy supplies for sewing such as thread, ribbon, and shipping costs.  It adds up 🥰

Opening a Wedding Dress Box That has Been Preserved

Today, I sewed a few more baby angel gowns, then felt the need to move around instead of sitting in my comfy chair, so I opened boxes that contained wedding dresses that were professionally preserved.  Here are a few that I opened today.  I have a few more to open so they will be featured another time.  To read a little about the preservation process here is a link .   So, I had to use scissors to pop the seal. Then opened the box.  The dress was carefully placed and some included tissue paper or had a cardboard form holding the top part of the dress. One at a time, I placed the dress on the dress form that was given to me by my children because I make myself clothes on occasion .  I take a picture of the front of the dress, then turn it around and take a picture of the back.  I need to break out my 35mm camera so the pictures look more professional!  I do have enough dresses that I can concentrate on using 2 dresses a month to make the baby...
I’ve been busy doing a lot of things this past week, where does time go?  I try not to devote all my time to making angel gowns. I tend to get consumed once I start.  One of the other tasks I enjoy doing is volunteering for the American Red Cross.  I’m on call during the day for local fires.  We don’t actually go there unless it’s a big apartment fire that involves a lot of people.  When it’s a single family fire, I assist them over the phone using either FaceTime or Google Duo. It’s rewarding to help them get back on their feet again. I also work a part time job assisting several real estate agents with their electronic paperwork.  All from home! But back to Angel Gowns!  Here is a dress donated by Aileen Pruitt.  Looks at all that lace!  And the satin is pristine! I see cute girl gowns in my near future.  Oh my goodness, how fun is that  it has lots of bead work so I need to be careful.  I have broken so many needles fr...

Using Bridesmaid’s dresses for Angel Gowns

It’s so much fun to be creative with the baby angel gowns.  I am going to incorporate bridesmaids dresses for an extra pop of color on both the girl and boy gowns.  I like the idea of making the vest and bow tie a color!  Michelle Ammons gave me this dress to use.  I’m so excited!  It will a layer of gathered texture to the front of the gown.   If anyone would like to donate their dress, please shoot me a message so we can arrange a delivery or pick up. I’m also thinking of including men’s ties.  If anyone has any to donate, they would make adorable tiny ties or bow ties for the boy’s gowns!  Black satin dresses also would be cool so It can give the gown a “tuxedo”  look.  It’s all about recycling and going to a good cause! This is not my picture but I wanted to show you an example of how adding color makes such a difference. I might go buy some black satin just to make a tuxedo looking one to see if I even like it. Ok, time to get back ...

Cutting out the Angel Gown Patterns

As I mentioned on the Facebook page @NorthGeorgiaAngelGowns page, I spent a good part of my day cutting and getting as many angel gowns as I could from Wendy’s dress.  I have a lot of sewing to do! Look at how little I wasted!  I placed the scissors there to show the scale of the pile.  Not bad from that wedding dress with a long train!  The dress had so much pretty satin which I love.  I can make both boy and girl angel gowns and be as creative as I want. Then this is the section with all the ornate and Lacey stuff.  I’m sure I’ll use this as I sew. Plus there will be tons left to use on other gowns as I need it. Thank you again for donating your wedding dress!

Wedding Dress Disassembly

It is so hard to cut into a pretty wedding dress.  But once I make that first cut, I start getting excited thinking about what I can do with different parts of the dress.  This dress was donated and she asked for 2 handkerchiefs made to use for her daughters for “something old” in their own weddings.  What a great idea and that’s an easy project for me.   I had already cut away the under slip which included the stiff tulle from the dress.  That part I can’t use.  I might find a place that either can use it or a place that recycles it.      The dress has a really long satin train with ornate lace and embellishments, I cut that off also.  I hand washed It since it was dragged around on her special day! I then air dried it.  It is long!  I can hardly wait to use it! Once I cut the satin fabric from the bodice, it makes the bodice look so lonely! I cut the satin into 2 manageable sections.  Taking the bodice apart takes...

Mailed out Angel Gowns Today!

It’s a good feeling when I make enough gowns to fill a box to ship to one of the organizations that I partner with.  Sent them 14 made from a donated wedding dress.  I think my next post will be about disassembling a dress. @NorthGeorgiaAngelGowns #weddingdresses #northgeorgiaangelgowns #angelgowns
